"Lakewood Farm added to national register of historic sites .."Not even the John Ball Park Zoo or the Detroit Zoo had such a large number and variety of exotic animals at the time," she wrote. "(The zoo) helped develop Holland as a tourist destination by drawing millions of people (here)." Her research encouraged van Heest to write a book titled "Lakewood Farm and Zoo: George Getz's Famous Attraction in Holland, Michigan." Signed copies of the book are available through the Historic Ottawa Beach Society."
